The Washington Star

As part of a brand revival, The Washington Star wanted to preserve the equity of its iconic wordmark while introducing a distinctive visual asset that could unify the brand beyond the masthead.

A complementary brand mark was created from the W in the original masthead, using repeated letterforms to reveal the star in the negative space. Because the symbol is built from the publication’s own typography, it feels inherently editorial and like a natural extension of the historic identity. The result is a timeless, ownable brand mark that reinforces the brand while providing a distinctive visual asset for digital and print applications.
